Kavala

Kavala prefecture is situated between the rivers Nestos and Strymonas, which are also its natural borders. Its geographical location on the shore of the Aegean Sea and Via Egnatia, that linked East to West, makes it an ideal point of communication between cultures. The airport "Alexander the Great", in a distance of 27 km from Kavala, is connected with Athens and with a number of Western European cities. Kavala can be reached by bus from Athens, Thessaloniki, Drama, Serres, Xanthi, Komotini, and Alexandroupolis. Also, it is linked by boat with Thassos, Limnos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, Rhodes, Kymi, Agios Konstantinos, Piraeus, Mytilini, and Samothrace.

Philippoi Theatre

The ancient Theatre of Philippoi is a remarkable and important monument, located at the foot of the acropolis and it is supported on the eastern wall of the city of Philippi. Even though it has undergone many changes over the centuries and some interventions it still preserves many of its original elements. The first phase of the theatre dates back in the reign of Philip II in 356 BC. The archaeological area of Philippoi can offer to the tourist a mixed tour since the excavations have brought to light remains of the Hellenistic, the roman, the byzantine and the early Christian period. One of the biggest festivals in Greece takes place every summer in the ancient theatre of Philippoi.

Thassos

Thassos is the northest island of the Aegean Sea. Administratively, Thassos consists of one municipality with Limenas being the capital town and nine more sub-municipal departments across the island. The population is 16,000 people and Limenas in the north and Limenaria in the south are the two main towns in administration and trade. These two towns have a full range of services and markets. All seasons are beautiful in Thassos, however spring and early summer are the prettiest. Temperature is at perfect levels and the landscape is very colorful.

Amphipoles

Our area is located between Amphipoles and Philippoi. Excavations in and around have revealed important buildings, ancient walls and tombs. At the nearby vast Kasta burial mound, an important ancient Macedonian tomb has recently been revealed. The unique and beautiful "Lion of Amphipolis" monument nearby is a popular destination for visitors. The development of Amphipoles is reflected on the monumental buildings with the mosaic floors and the frescoes, but also, at the archaeological foundings. The Festival of Amphipoles is one of the biggest festivals that takes place in the Archaeological park of Amphipoles.

Alistratis Cave

At the Alistrati Cave the big variety of and inside the cave is extremely impressive. Stalactites are the limestone tubular formations which are growing from the ceiling and downwards. Stalagmites are formed as the water drops, which carry acid carbonate, fall on the ground under a stalactite. When a stalactite meets a stalagmite, we have a new formation which is called "column". The older stalactites are mainly in the galleries which are on the right side of the entrance. On the other hand, the "infant" stalactites on the left side of entrance. Temperature is stable even in the winter because the airing of the cave is less than the proper In May humidity is high (95-105%) and it's quite stable all year long.

The Silk Road

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping, a new set of trades and structures interconnections in Asia, Europe and the Pacific, was announced. A network that stretches in 68 countries and includes 4.4 billion of people. "Silk Road" is China's highly ambitious campaign to increase trade, economic growth and trigger a "new era of globalization". Greece will have a leading role in this endeavor, due to her "key" position, with easy access to airports, ports, railways and modern road networks.

Egnatia Road

Part of the new Egnatia road, a section of about 360 km (220 miles) from Evros to Thessaloniki, parallels via Egnatia, which is the famous Roman road from Rome to Constantinople (Istanbul). The route traverses the mountainous Greek regions of Epirus and Macedonia, including 76 tunnels (with a combined length of 99 km/61.5 miles) and 1,650 bridges. Total length: 670 kilometers - Linked with nine major vertical axes connecting to the neighboring countries in the north (Albania, FYRO - Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey) - Linked to the Ports of: Igoumenitsa - Thessaloniki - Kavala - Alexandroupolis Linked to the Airports of: Ioannina - Kastoria - Kozani - Thessaloniki - Kavala -Alexandroupolis.

Bansko

Bansko has become an international center for winter and summer tourism. Mountain peaks near the city, numerous lakes and pine forests make it a popular area for leisure. From 2010, the ski center has 75 km of ski slopes, of which 35% are for beginners, 40% for experienced and 25% for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The 14 ski lifts serve up to 24,500 people per hour. The ski-lifts peak is at an altitude of 2,600 meters. 80% of these areas are equipped with 170 cannons - artificial snow.

Lake Kerkini

Lake Kerkini is an artificial reservoir that was created in 1932, and then redeveloped in 1980, on the site of what was previously an extremely extensive marshland. Lake Kerkini is now one of, if not the, premier birding site in Greece, and, as it is situated along the migratory flyway for migratory birds enroot to the Aegean Sea, the Balkan region, the Black Sea, the Hungarian steppes and beyond it experiences an interesting migration. The combination of the three elements - diversity of vegetation, water and fertile soil- creates an important number of biospheres in the area that vary in their structure and their functionality.

Eleutheroi Baths

The healing springs of Eleutheroi thermal baths, fall under the municipality of Paggaio and are located 42 km away from the city of Kavala. The abundant amount of hot mineral waters which stream in the region were used from the Roman times and their temperature ranges between 37-42° C. The thermal baths provide hydrotherapy and they can be combined with the clay therapy of Krinides, which is located in Kavala. The combination of the natural wealth with the completely organized installations, provide an even bigger sense of wellness and brings closer to nature those who chose to visit the healing baths, as the whole scenery resembles a paradise of harmonious coexistence of all the ecosystem, located on earth.

Delta of Nestos

Wild animals and various birds take refuge in the Delta of Nestos river, which is a global migratory station. You can discover the Straits of Nestos offered for walk, remote hiking and extreme sports.

Mount Athos

Mount Athos is a mountain and peninsula in northeastern Greece and an important centre of Eastern Orthodox monasticism. It is governed as an autonomous polity within the Greek Republic under the official name Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain. Mount Athos is home to 20 monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. The view captivates the visitor, who has the opportunity to navigate with a daily cruise round the beautiful mountain of Mount Athos and see the majestic monasteries that emerge through the rocks.

Nea Peramos/Nea Iraklitsa

Nea Peramos and Nea Iraklitsa are tourist areas of the prefecture of Kavala with clean, picturesque beaches, awarded with Blue Flags, with many restaurants, tavernas and bars. It is a pole of attraction for many tourists, mainly from Balkan countries. Visitors can find everything they need for their stay, whether in winter or in summer. Peramos is famous mainly for the beaches of Ammolofon. Too many organized beaches, green waters and many activities. Apart from tourism, local products can also be enjoyed by local producers such as grapes, wine, tsipouro, olives, oil, as one of the main occupations of the inhabitants is agriculture.
